Our popular movie review and discussion event returns!

The Janes is a timely documentary that looks at a group of women who built an underground network for women seeking safe, affordable, illegal abortion in 1970s Chicago. In the pre-Roe v. Wade era, female activists calling themselves ‘Jane’ build an underground network for women with unwanted pregnancies and provide low-cost and free illegal abortions to an estimated 11,000 women. The film premiered in June 2022 on HBO Max, and is available there and on several other streaming services.

Join NCJW/Essex and Natalie Peck for a discussion about this important and informative film! Journalist Charles Jaco, who knows several of the Janes, will offer introductory remarks.
